Ice Storms, Trees and Power Lines

Abstract

Ice storms can cause prolonged outages in the supply of electric power to residents and industry. As we have become more dependent on electric power for lighting, heat, water, and communications, disruptions in the power supply have more severe consequences. This paper reviews a simple ice accretion model for forecasting ice loads in freezing-rain storms.
