Final Environmental Assessment- Air Traffic Control Tower and Fire Station Pope AFB, NC

Abstract

Pope AFB proposes to improve facilities and services by constructing and operating a new Air Traffic Control Tower and Fire Station. The new Air Traffic Control Tower would provide the abilities to modernize and upgrade air traffic control functions at Pope AFB. The new Fire Station is needed to meet Air Force safety and living standards. Construction would begin in 2006 and the new facilities would be operational by 2008. Under the preferred alternative, this construction will take place on previously developed sites, with the Fire Station being built on the site currently being used for the Air Traffic Control Tower and Fire Station, and the Air Traffic Control Tower being built in a Heavy Equipment Yard.
