Environmental Assessment: Demolition of Central Steam Plant and Associated Facilities at Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington

Abstract

The Air Force is proposing to demolish the central steam plant (Bldg 2175) and associated facilities on Fairchild AFB. The action is needed to: increase safety and occupational health by eliminating unoccupied buildings and removing hazardous material reduce the amount of hazardous material on Fairchild AFB by demolishing buildings and removing debris; and improve overall base appearance and increase potential land use. Under the No Action Alternative, demolition of the central steam plant and associated facilities would not be accomplished, and these non-operational structures would remain in their current condition. Resources considered in the impact analysis were: air quality; noise hazardous wastes and hazardous materials; cultural resources; solid waste management; and environmental management. No significant impacts would result from implementation of the Proposed Action or the No Action Alternative.
