Finance Support During Operation Desert Shield

Abstract

During the last several years the Finance school has received many inquiries about the need for a "green suit" Finance Corps. Most came from the Department of the Army because of congressional pressure to reduce Army force structure and to minimize the tail of what force structure could remain in the Army (maximize killers in force structure). Reviews have studied civilianizing the Finance corps, merging it with another branch, and placing more into the reserve components. Recently consideration (more practical) is also developing for more closely aligning the Finance corps to the functional area Resource Management (FA45) or possibly with procurement operations. Given these repeated inquiries, it is likely the Army will continue to require real world information about finance operations during contingency operations and large scale deployments.
