Lightweight Enhanced Trench Overhead Protection System (LETOPS): Characterization of the Prototypes Performance

Abstract

This report describes a test program completed at Defence Research Establishment Valcartier (DREV) to study the performance of two Lightweight Enhanced Trench Overhead Protection Systems (LETOPS) prototypes manufactured under contract by two Canadian firms. Both prototypes were submitted to the detonation of ten 156-mm HE artillery shell seven meters above the trenches. The detonations were performed consecutively, and the systems were adjusted after each detonation, whenever required. The test results are presented, summarily analysed and discussed.
