Monitoring and tracing of critical software systems: State of the work and project definition

Abstract

This document presents a summary of the results of the tutorial/workshop "Monitoring Distributed Multi-core IT Systems for Optimization and Security", which was held in January '08 at Ericsson's Montreal office. The aim of this event was to identify important problems and challenges that are experienced by researchers and industry in this domain, as well as potential avenues of research and development that may lead to concrete solutions for critical operations. A brief review of the state of the art in this domain is presented as an introduction. The main results of the January '08 tutorial/workshop are then presented. These results will eventually be used in the definition and set-up of R&D projects designed to put forward potential solutions for critical operations. The annexes contain complete information relative to the January '08 event, a brief description of tools that are currently used in this domain, as well as a glossary.
