Formation of Long-Lived Gas Species in Hydrogen Thyratrons

Abstract

Direct evidence is presented for the formation of c3(Pi)u metastable molecules in hydrogen thyratrons. The presence of these species had not previously been realized. Because these states have lifetimes of 100 (mu)sec and 1 msec, and energies greater than 11eV, their behavior may affect thyratron recovery rates.
