Focusing Induction Accelerator

Abstract

This paper describes a unique induction accelerator that simultaneously axially accelerates and radially compresses conic-section-shaped, sheet-copper rings. The result of this process is an axially flying, compact slug. A description of the experimental set-up and of the testing of this device is presented. Special attention is given to the drive-coil design, which includes a barrel, and to the investigation of the ring-forming process using high-speed photography.
