Evolution of the Synthetic Environment in the FFSE Section: Survey of Current Usage of Synthetic Environment within FFSE and Recommendations for the Future

Abstract

As part of a project on the Exploitation of Synthetic Environments (Project #13jb), this document summarizes a data-gathering effort to measure the current synthetic environment usage in the Future Forces Synthetic Environment section. Eleven simulation instances, ranging from a two-week, human-in-the-loop rehearsal to a 30-second stand-alone computation, are described and measured in term such as accessibility, complexity, agility and stability. The problems that limit the exploitability of the current simulation network are also discussed, and various solutions are proposed. Some of these solutions will be implemented within the 13jb project
