Variational Solutin to the Problem of the Symmetrical Cylindrical Antenna

Abstract

The problem of radiation from a thin wire antenna is cast in a variational form. The input impedance is used as the stationary parameter and the current along the antenna as the wave function. Using a suitable trial function an approximate solution for the case of a symmetrical cylindrical antenna is determined. This solution is shown to be in good agreement with the one obtained by King and Middleton for the same problem.
