Deformation Analysis of Wing Structures

Abstract

Refined stress theories are applied to the problem of calculating deflections, particularly those of wings. Bending and torsional deflections are discussed for wings with or without cutouts. Formulas are given in such a form that corrections can be added to deflections calculated by means of elementary theory. Examples show that deflection corrections are small; simple approximation formulas are adequate for design purposes when conventional structures under uniform loading are considered.
