The Limit of Stability of a Curved Plate Under Shear and Axial Stresses

Abstract

For an infinitely long plate of constant curvature, the buckling condition for combined shear and axial stresses was set up. The buckling condition was evaluated for the case of pure shear and an approximate formula was derived for the critical stresses for large curvatures. In connection with the discussion of the methods and results, the range of validity of the bucking condition set up is defined.
