The Effect of Moisture and Fungus on Electrical and Mechanical Properties of Plastic Insulating Materials

Abstract

The effect of moisture and fungus on electrical and mechanical properties ol plastic materials has been investigated. Those materials which are the most porous, naturally, deteriorate more rapidly, and to a greater extent, since they absorb water more readily. It is obvious that when noisture is present In the material, Its Insulating properties are seriously reduced. The effect of fungus Is to increase the amount of moisture absorbed. The results of the Investigations of many different types of plastics are given in tabular form.
