Studies of River Bed Materials and Their Movement, with Special Reference to the Lower Mississippi River

Abstract

This paper presents the results of two closely related investigations which have been actively carried on by the U.S. Waterways Experiments Station since the summer of 1932. In August of that year, the Chief of Engineers, U.S. Army, directed that studies be undertaken to determine the force of flowing water required to move materials comprising the bed of the Lower Mississippi River.
