Abstract

THE VISCOELASTIC PROPERTIES OF THE POLYCARBONATE OF BISPHENOL A WERE STUDIED UNDER SMALL STRESS FROM 120 TO 200 C. IN THIS TEMPERATURE RANGE, THE POLYMER BEHAVES LIKE A NORMAL AMORPHOUS MATERIAL WHOSE VISCOELASTIC PROPERTIES CAN BE EXPLAINED BY REFERRING TO THE FREE VOLUME THEORY; FLORY'S HYPOTHESIS OF ISO-FREE VOLUME AT T SUB G IS VERIFIED. THIS STUDY THROWS NO LIGHT ON THE ANOMALOUSLY HIGH IMPACT STRE1H EXHIBITED BY THE POLYMER BELOW ITS GLASS TRANSITION TEMPERATURE. (AUTHOR-PL).
