The Role of Hydrogen Bonds in the Viscoelastic Properties of Amorphous Polymer Networks.

Abstract

THE INFLUENCE OF HYDROGEN BONDS ON THE VISCOELASTIC PROPERTIES IS STUDIED BY CONSTRUCTING THE MODULUS-TEMPERATURE CURVES OF A SERIES OF HOMO- AND COPOLYMERS OF METHACRYLATES. IT IS SEEN THAT ONLY THE INFLECTION TEMPERATURES CHANGE AS A FUNCTION OF THE DEGREE OF HYDROGEN BONDING. THE GLASSY MODULI, THE RUBBERY MODULI AND THE SLOPES AT THE TRANSITION REGION REMAIN ESSENTIALLY CONSTANT. PHYSICAL INTERPRETATIONS ON THE MOLECULAR SCALE ARE GIVEN TO EXPLAIN THE EXPERIMENTAL OBSERVATIONS. (AUTHOR-PL).
