A Molecular Theory for Viscoelastic Behavior of Amorphous Polymers.

Abstract

THE RELAXATION MODULUS FOR N.B.S. POLYISOBUTYLENE WAS INTERPRETED AS A SUM OF TWO ROUSE FUNCTIONS EACH ARISING FROM A DIFFERENT MOLECULAR MECHANISM. ONE IS ASSOCIATED WITH TORSIONAL VIBRATIONS AND INTERNAL ROTATION. THE OTHER IS ASSOCIATED WITH AN ENTANGLED NETWORK OF GAUSSIAN SEGMENTS. EACH ROUSE FUNCTION IS CHARACTERIZED BY THREE PARAMETERS, WHICH CAN BE OBTAINED FROM THE EXPERIMENTAL RELAXATION MODULUS. (AUTHOR-PL).
