Arc Welding of Armor. Butt Welds in 1-1/2 in. Rolled Homogeneous Armor Plate

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to obtain data on the physical and metallurgical properties of butt joints on 1-1/2" thick rolled homogenous armor welded with 25/20 and modified 18/8 stainless welding electrodes. These butt joints were from ballistically tested Y-type test plates which were received from Aberdeen Proving Ground. The butt joints were prepared for welding with unscarfed plate edges.
