New Welding Process Single Pass Welding in Metal 1 Inch Thick,

Abstract

The chief novelty in the method seems to be an accurate adjustment of four welding variables, which adjustment would be difficult to maintain under usual shop conditions in a production plant. The weld produced is subject to defects inherent to the method in that a plane of weakness is produced through the center of the weld. There is also a likelihood of the formation of relatively large gas cavities in the penetration zone. The method is applicable only to automatic welding and for this reason would have a very limited application to Ordnance work.
