Spot Welded Outrigger Sample from Republic Steel Corporation,

Abstract

The specimen as received at Watertown is spot welded throughout of 1/16 in. sheet metal. The flanges consist of two angles back to back with a flat plate spot welded to the extended legs. The over-all length is about 5 feet, and the depth varies from about 10 inches at one end to about 8 inches at the other. In order to test this sample for comparison with those spot welded specimens described, in the length of the sample was cut to about 4 feet and end grips were welded on. The torsion and load deflection curves are shown; these curves were determined in the same manner as those of Report No. 646/1. The weight of the sample minus the end grips, was 25 pounds, or about 6-1/4 pounds per foot.
