Experimental Nitriding of Armor Plate

Abstract

It is concluded that the depth of case obtained by nitriding cycles of 96 and 120 hours at 900 F are suitable for use on 1/4 in. plate, if results obtained with carburized cases can be taken as a criterion, and that the case structure and hardness is such that the method offers distinct possibilities and should be further investigated.
