Correlation of Metallurgical Properties with Low Temperature Ballistic Performance of 1 inch, 11/2 inch and 2 inch Rolled Armor Tested at Camp Shilo, Canada

Abstract

Object: To correlate metallurgical properties of 1", 1.5", and 2" rolled homogeneous armor and 1" rolled faco-hardened (carburized) armor with ballistic performance (shock and projectile-through-the plate tests) at low temperatures (-15 def F to -35 deg F) in order to establish the characteristics which must be possessed by such armor for successful performance at subnormal temperatures
