Development and Production of Experimental High-Strength Ferritic Electrodes. Part 1.

Abstract

This is the seventh progress report on Part 1 of Contract W33-019 ORD 5461, concerning the development of experimental high-strength ferritic electrodes. This report describes further tests with Electrode UE-16 which include: (a) Tension tests of all-weld-metal specimens in the as-welded, stress-relieved, and quenched and drawn conditions; (b) notched-bar tests of weld metal in the same three conditions; and (c) restrained joint tests. Four other experimental electrodes, UE-13, UE-14, UE-15, and UE-17, were developed and tested. The weld metals from these electrodes varied from that of Electrode UE-16, particularly in cobalt, and had lower strength properties than UE-16 weld metal.
