Development and Production of Experimental High-Strength Ferritic Electrodes. Part 1.

Abstract

This is the fourth progress report on Part 1 of Contract W33-019 ORD 5461, concerning the development of high-strength ferritic electrodes. The experimental work described in this report was directed toward finding specific characteristics of cast metal and weld metal of the same chemical composition which might affect their strength properties. It covers the following points: (1) Metallographic examination of weld metal and cast metal having the same chemical composition. (2) Hardness survey and subsequent metallographic examination of cast-metal specimens which were oil-quenched and then drawn at various temperatures and times.
