Development and Production of Experimental High-Strength Ferritic Electrodes. Part 1.

Abstract

This is the fifth progress report on Part 1 of Contract W33-019 ORD 5461, on the development of high-strength ferritic electrodes. This report describes experimental work as follows: (1) A study of the strength properties, chemical composition, and microstructure of as-welded and heat-treated weld metal made with a weave-bead technique and high heat input with Electrode UE-6. (2) A similar study of weld metal deposited using a stringer-bead technique and a low heat input, with the same type of electrode. (3) A metallographic examination of some weld-metal samples made with the original batch of Electrode No. 48A on the previous NDRC project.
