Investigation on the Welding of High-Strength Aluminum Alloys.

Abstract

This report covers tests on welded joints in thick 2S aluminum plate which form a basis for Part I of this investigation (determination of the strength properties of joints in thick, high-strength aluminum alloy plates, welded with conventional welding processes and currently available filler metals). The report also describes experiments made on unorthodox welding of aluminum (Part IV of the project). Room-temperature pressure-welding experiments, and pressure-welding tests using silver and silver-mercury amalgams, were made.
