Welding of Recoil Guides.

Abstract

This report covers the results of a micro-examination of seven welds, selected from those made for the experiments with the 8 foot gun tube (C-348 and WD-22320 guide) and may be classified in two groups as follows: (1) Welds with first layer of bare electrode and the second layer of covered electrode. (2) Welds with both first and second layers of covered electrode. From each group specimen welds were chosen as representative of: No heat treatment, Low temperature preheat, and Low temperature preheat and soak. This study was made to determine the weld metal structures and metal structures of the heat affected zones adjacent to the weld metal as affected by: the type of electrode, a low temperature preheat, a low temperature preheat and soak.
