On the Principles of Cold-Working,

Abstract

The authors intend to establish general equations for simple tubes, cold-worked or not, by generalizing the hypotheses which are at the foundation of the study of simple tubes in the elastic state. We have enumerated and defined, in the preceding remarks, the group of hypotheses which is at the foundation of the theory of cold-working, according to Malaval; the eleventh hypothesis concerns the return to static position, and will be given at the end of this chapter. This group of hypotheses forms an imposing series and it seems that one might get from it an impression of insecurity. Such is the case because we wished to trace back right to the very foundations of the theory of the tensile strength of materials.
