Butt Welds, 1/2 Inch Structural Molybdenum Plate,

Abstract

This report covers the metallographic examination of six butt welds made at Watertown Arsenal and examined at the laboratories of the Climax Molybdenum Co., in Detroit, Michigan. The welds were all made with 3/16 inch diameter Lincoln Shield-Arc No. 85 electrode. The physical tests on these welds and a discussion of the results are given in Report No. 642/83. It is desired that a macrograph be made of each of these weld sections on the face marked by the Vickers hardness impressions. This at about 3 diameters. It is desired that sufficient micros be made of each weld section so as to show the metal structure in the heat affected zone and in each layer of weld metal. The magnification to be at your discretion. It is also desired to show the junction between weld metal and plate metal.
