Approval Test of Aluminum Welding Electrodes - Test 7818,

Abstract

Several brands of aluminum welding electrode samples were tested. The welding tests consisted of depositing the electrodes between rolled and cast sheets and plates of aluminum to form butt joints. The subject electrodes were deposited to form fillets. All deposition was performed as horizontal downhand work. The legs of the members joined by the fillets were, respectively, in the horizontal and vertical planes. Arcronograph records were made during the deposition of a few electrodes of all brands and sizes tested. The butt joints produced were sectioned and the sections were formed into two types of reduced section transverse tension specimens; i.e., trimmed and untrimmed. The results of the tension tests and other pertinent data are given.
