Welding Test to Determine the Weldability of 3/8 Inch Monel Metal Stock Using SPK-874 5/32 Inch Diameter Monel Metal Electrodes,

Abstract

The subject electrodes were used to produce welded butt joints between 3/16 and 3/8 monel metal sheet stock. There were four welded assemblies. They were stress relieved and subsequently sectioned in test specimens. From the welding tests conducted it is evident that the subject electrodes may be conveniently deposited in welding scarves in the horizontal downband position. It is further evident that welded joints so produced possess the required tensile strength and that the ductility of the weld metal is also satisfactory. From the welding tests conducted it is evident that the subject electrodes are suitable for the production of single layer butt joints, when oscillation of the electrode to the extent of 1-1/2 to 2 diameters may be employed.
