Investigation of Sample of 1 Inch Armor Plate.

Abstract

The sample of armor plate showing 'alligator skin', submitted by the American Car and Foundry Co., was reported to be cut from the edge of the plate. During the rolling of the plate, it was reported that coke dust or some carbonaceous material was thrown on the plate. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if the nature of the defects would be cause for rejection. The 'alligator skin' noted on the surface of the plate (Fig. I) is cause for rejection.
