The Properties of Six Low-Alloy Steels (AF1-AF6) for Face-Hardened Armor.

Abstract

Six low-alloy steel compositions designed by the Army Ordnance Department for possible use as face-hardened armor were, at the instance of Watertown Arsenal, subjected to various metallurgical examinations and mechanical tests. The resulting data are presented and the properties of each steel compared with the others. Such tests were done because of the necessity for conserving alloying elements. This work was done in 1942.
