Variable Span Suspension Bridge for Military Use, Class 50 Loading Project BRS 419.

Abstract

This 1946 report covers a study made to determine the most satisfactory type of variable-span suspension bridge for military use. This bridge is to be developed and stocked as a standard for all crossings requiring a clear span from about 150 to 600 feet. The study should result in the design of standard parts which may be used for the building of all suspension bridges within the specified range, for the building of beam spans, pony-truss spans, piers, towers, pile bents, and for other purposes.
