Survey of Winter Weather in Northeastern North Dakota.
Abstract
The objective of this technical note is to investigate the climatic regime for the Safeguard site near Nekoma, North Dakota and establish analogs between this site and nearby weather stations which have long periods of record. In October 1971 meteorological instruments were set up at Nekoma, N.D., to measure air temperature, wind and precipitation on a daily basis. Installation of the equipment and subsequent recording of the observations were done by a U. S. Army Meteorological Team on temporary duty at Nekoma from their base station at White Sands, N. M. Summaries of the winter weather observed during 1971-72 at Nekoma, N.D., will be compared with data collected from two nearby first order National Weather Service stations: Grand Forks and Minot, N.D. Then, if similarities in the weather and climate exist between the sites of some positive statements will be made regarding the representiveness of the 1971-72 data with long term climate for the same general region.
