Night-Work Lighting Systems for Construction Equipment.
Abstract
This U/A report covers a study of the lighting requirements to permit efficient night operation of the power cranes, road graders, road rollers, tractors, tractor-operated cranes, water distributors, and ditching machines used by the Corps of Engineers; describes the development of suitable lighting and electrical power equipment; and sets forth data on the proper location of the equipment in order to meet lighting requirements. After development of suitable lighting equipment, the determination of the type, number, and optimum location of the lighting fixtures required for each item of construction equipment was made in the field in a long series of night operations with skilled operators obtained from the Engineer School, including expert instructors from the training courses of that organization and men with long records of service in civilian construction and military construction in the theaters of operation. Included in the report are specifications covering all materials and parts required for the lighting systems developed.
