Blast-Driven Anchorages and Piling,

Abstract

This U/A report covers the use of the blast-driven earth rod equipment and principle in military bridging operations as a means of driving anchorages and piling, removing anchor posts, projecting anchor cables, and clearing bridge approaches. It is concluded that the blast-driven earth rod kit with anchor stake driving attachment can be used in connection with floating bridge construction as an effective means of driving and removing metal anchor posts, making deep post holes, setting long timber posts, making holes in earth for placing breaching charges and for projecting cables across gaps or small rivers; and that piling can be driven by the direct blast method, but that the heavy weight of the device and the great amount of extra work involved makes its use impractical.
