Conditions for Blackbody Radiation,

Abstract

In connection with the development of radiation sources of high intrinsic brilliancy in the visible, infrared, or ultraviolet spectra range, the question of conditions under which metals, other solids, or vapors and gases (gas-discharge light sources) will emit continuous blackbody radiation is of considerable importance. This 1948 paper presents a treatment of that problem and a number of conclusions concerning the design of radiation sources of high brilliancy.
