Metallurgical Examination of Nineteen 1/4 Inch Rolled Homogeneous Armor Plates.

Abstract

Metallurgical examination, including Brinell hardness, fracture tests for steel soundness and ductility, macroetch tests, and microscopic examination, were conducted on 19 plates which had been previously tested as a part of the effect of hardness program. All plates were satisfactorily heat treated and all plates but one are considered to have been processed from adequately sound steel.
