Electron Diffraction Examination of Gun Barrel Coatings.

Abstract

Electron diffraction examination of the black coating on a small section of a gun barrel and of a similar black coating on a ring of 1045 steel that had been dipped in a hot solution containing alkali and nitrite has shown that both coatings are magnetic iron-oxide, Fe3O4.
