Powder Metallurgy. Metallurgical Examination of Two German Sintered Iron 75-mm. Rotating Bands.

Abstract

Two sintered iron rotating bands for 75-mm artillery shell were received with a request that they be subjected to a metallurgical examination to determine their composition and physical properties. The subject rotating bands had not been banded to shell and were obtained at the Veltrup Werken KG, Aachen, Germany. Among tests conducted for this 1945 report were: Density determinations, Chemical analysis, Hardness tests, Radial crushing tests, Shear tests, and Micro-examination.
