Metallurgical Examination of Six 3/8 Inch Rolled Armor Plates Manufactured by Standard Steel Spring Company.
Abstract
Metallurgical examination, including Brinell hardness surveys, fracture tests for steel soundness and fibre, and macroetch tests, was conducted on each of the six plates furnished by Standard Steel Spring Company. Microscopic examination was made on three plates and a chemical analysis taken by two. All plates were satisfactorily heat treated as revealed by the fibre fracture test.
