Metallurgical Examination of Twelve 1 Inch Cast Armor Plates Furnished by McConway-Torley Corporation

Abstract

The plates showed lack of ductility as evidenced by non-fibrous fractures and poor V-notch Charpy impact vales. The characteristic dendritic and, in some cases; conchoidal fractures are believed to reflect poor steel making practice. Heat treatment of the plates appeared to be satisfactory.
