Spot Welding of Armor: A Study of Ballistic Properties and Metallurgical Characteristics of Butt Strap Joints in 1/4 in Face Hardened and 1/4 in Rolled Homogeneous Armor Spot Welded by National Electric Welding Machines Company,

Abstract

The object of this 1942 study was: (1) To determine the ballistic limit values of spot welded 1/8-in. butt strap joints on 1/4-in. armor; (2) To determine the ballistic shock properties of sections supported at each corner by a spot welded tab of 1/8-in. x 12-in. cold rolled strip; and (3) To determine the effect of spot welding butt strap joints on the hardness of 1/4-in. face hardened and 1/4-in. rolled homogeneous armor.
