Equations to Determine Displacements and Stresses in Certain Structural Elements When Exposed to the Thermal and Blast Effects of a Nuclear Event.

Abstract

Closed form equations are developed to provide a means of computing the displacements and stresses arising in the following structural elements due to exposure to the thermal pulse, and the subsequent pressure pulse, of a nuclear weapon: (1) Simply supported rectangular plate; (2) Simply supported circular plate; and (3) Beams of rectangular and circular cross-section--a. simply supported at both ends, b. cantilevered, and c. clamped at both ends. These equations have been developed based on the classical theories of plates and beams and assume that the elastic properties remain constant.
