Powder Metallurgy: German Die Assembly for Compacting Projectile Rotating Bands from Iron Powder.

Abstract

A brief description is given of a German die assembly used in the manufacture of iron powder rotating bands for projectiles. The die assembly was designed to function in a semiautomatic press for double action compacting and ejecting of bands. The cavity of the die can be varied in depth up to a maximum of two inches. The die was used for compacting bands of various lengths for shells approximately three inches in diameter.
