Metallurgical Examination of 1/2 in Countersunk Rivets

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to study the metallurgical characteristics of 1/2-in. SAE 2330 countersunk rivets (60 deg and 90 deg) which had been employed in the assembly of an experimental riveted section and tested ballistically at Aderdeen Proving Ground to determine the characteristics of the riveted joint under the impact of armor piercing projectiles.
