Ballistic and Metallurgical Investigation of M1 Helmets Edge-Annealed in a 'Tocco' Induction Heating Unit Prior to Trimming.
Abstract
A metallurgical investigation of the edge annealing of this helmet in a 'Tocco' induction heating unit prior to the trimming operation is feasible both from a procduction viewpoint and for the purpose of the stress relieving the visor, which is a zome very susceptible to age cracking. Ballistical testing of the annealed zone and the transition zone both to possess satisfactory ballistic characteristics.
