Resistance of an Aluminum Alloy (R301-T) to Perforation by Fragment- Simulating Projectiles

Abstract

In accordance with a request from the Office, Chief of Ordnance, tests have recently been concluded on samples of R301-T aluminum alloy furnished by the Reynolds Metals Company. The resistance of the 1/8 in. samples of perforation by all of the fragment-simulating projectiles employed was greatly inferior to that of equivalent weights of Hadfield manganese steel.
