Metallurgical Examination of American Steel Foundries 1 inch Cast Armor Test Plates.

Abstract

The Proving Center, Aberdeen requested (APG 470.5/2190, Wtn 470.5/7468(r)) that metallurgical examination be conducted on four (4) 1 in cast armor test plates submitted by the American Steel Foundries for test under the program at The Proving Center on the effect of hardness on ballistic properties. Ballistic results on these plates are to be reported in Armor Test Report AD-540 of The Proving Center. Metallurgical examination consisted of the following tests: (a) Fibre fracture tests, (b) Macroetch tests, (c) Physical tests, (d) Hardness tests, (e) Chemistry on one plate, and (f) Microscopic examination.
